ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL will present a solo exhibition by sculptor LEE Dongwook (b. 1976) from September 4 (Wed) to October 12 (Sat), 2024. LEE's work delves into themes of alienation, imbalance, division, and isolation faced by individuals in modern society, expressed through his distinctive visual language. LEE utilizes materials such as polymer clay, fossils, and industrial products to convey keen observations of the individual's struggle in modern society to get through daily routines, or as a critique or accusation of reality. His work reflects a cynical and distanced gaze, prominently revealed in his sculptures and installations that highlight the cold yet intimate coexistence of artificial structures and human figures. Through meticulously positioned human figures, residues, and traces among humanoids, LEE creates a unique tension that blends his signature brand of primary aesthetic pleasure with tranquil reflections on human nature. LEE has held solo exhibitions at ARARIO MUSEUM Dongmun Motel II (Jeju, Korea, 2016), Perigee Gallery (Seoul, Korea, 2016), Charlotte Lund Galerie (Stockholm, Sweden, 2013), ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL (Seoul, Korea, 2012), and Doosan Gallery (New York, US, 2012), and more. His works are part of the collections of prominent museums and foundations worldwide, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea), ARARIO MUSEUM (Seoul, Korea), Burger Collection (Hong Kong), Rubell Family Collection (Miami, US), and Today Art Museum (Beijing, China).
