SONGEUN will proudly present Portrait of a Collection: Selected Works from the Pinault Collection from September 4th to November 23rd, in collaboration with the esteemed Pinault Collection. This exhibition marks a significant moment, reconnecting with Korean audiences 13 years after the Pinault Collection's Asian debut with Agony and Ecstasy at SONGEUN (formerly SongEun ArtSpace) in 2011. As part of SONGEUN's initiative to showcase international collections, the exhibition will explore the intricate relationship between artists and collectors, highlighting the significance of art collecting in the contemporary art world. By broadening the exposure of Korean artists and the contemporary art scene, both domestically and abroad, SONGEUN is committed to enriching the cultural landscape of Korea with meaningful contributions.
Portrait of a Collection: Selected Works from the Pinault Collection draws inspiration from Ouverture, the inaugural exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris. This former commodities exchange was transformed into an art museum by the Pinault Collection in 2021. The exhibition will feature around 60 works by artists such as Lucas Arruda, Miriam Cahn, Xinyi Cheng, Peter Doig, Marlene Dumas, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, David Hammons, Florian Krewer, Julie Mehretu, Antonio Obá, Anri Sala & Sejla Kameric, Ser Serpas, Rudolf Stingel, Pol Taburet, Tatiana Trouvé, Luc Tuymans, Danh Vo, Anicka Yi, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye—artists whose works have rarely been seen in Korea. Curated by Caroline Bourgeois, senior curator at the Pinault Collection, this exhibition encompasses a variety of media including video, installation, sculpture, drawing, and painting, offering a comprehensive insight into the essence of the collection's artistic expression.
