박선기 작가는 숯을 활용해 공중에 건축 구조물을 형상화하는 설치작업으로 유명하다. 그의 작품은 존재와 부재, 실재와 환영 사이의 경계를 탐구하며, 관람자의 시점에 따라 형태가 변화하는 시각적 유희를 선사한다.
이번에 전시하는 작품 〈Untitled 20250418〉은 수직 수평 구조의 통념을 벗어난 사선과 사면의 구조를 통해 주변의 환경적 요인과 다양한 느낌이 가능한 환경조각의 기능을 보여준다. 따라서 작품은 언제나 그것이 놓인 환경 속에서 당당하게 자리하는 동시에 주변과 충돌하지 않고 조화를 이루는 힘을 가지게 되며 입체적 형태가 일정 규칙에 입각한 논리 속에서 생명력 있는 리듬을 스스로 품고 있으며 기하학적 형태와 공간을 가지는 동시에 시점을 이용하여 한층 더 변화된 모습으로 다가온다.
박선기(b.1966) 작가는 중앙대학교 조소과를 졸업하고 이탈리아 밀라노 국립미술원에서 수학했으며, 김세중미술관(2018) 등에서 개인전을 개최하였다. 루이비통 파운데이션, 제주 본태박물관, 포항시립미술관, 설화박물관, 신세계 백화점, 메르세데스 벤츠, 삼성물산, 삼성전자, 롯데백화점 등 주요 공공기관과 기업에서 그의 작품을 소장하고 있으며, 2006년 제9회 김종영 조각상을 수상한 바 있다.
Seonghi Bahk is renowned for his installations that use charcoal to create architectural structures suspended in air. His work explores the boundaries between presence and absence, reality and illusion, through playful works that shift shapes depending on the viewer’s point of view.
The two works featured in this exhibition—Untitled 20250418 and Point of View-Cube—break away from conventional vertical and horizontal structures, employing diagonal lines and slopes. They demonstrate the function of environmental sculpture that can evoke diverse sensations within its surroundings. The works assert their presence while also being in harmony with their environment. Their three-dimensional forms carry an inherent rhythm full of vitality that emerges from a fixed rule and logic, and their geometric form and space plays with perspective.
Seonghi Bahk (b.1966) graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Chung-Ang University and studied at the National Art Institute in Milan, Italy. He has held multiple solo exhibitions at venues such as the Kim Sechoong Museum. His works are held by major public institutions and corporations such as the Louis Vuitton Foundation, Jeju Bonte Museum, Pohang Museum of Steel Art, Seolhwa Museum, Shinsegae Department Store, Mercedes-Benz, Samsung C&T, Samsung Electronics, and Lotte Department Store. He won the 9th Kim Jong-young Sculpture Award in 2006.
