Gilrae Lee explores the relationship between nature’s vitality and humanity through artwork centered on pine trees. He uses a unique method to craft pine trees out of copper pipes, representing the harmony between the natural and artificial. In Korean culture, pine trees are an important symbol of resilience and permanence, and the artist draws from this tradition to depict the cycle of nature and the continuity of life.
The exhibition features three of Lee’s works—Pine Tree with Three Roots 2018-3, Pine Tree with Three Roots 1, and Millennium-Pine Tree Lump. These works transcend being mere sculptures and offer a philosophical and visual exploration on the relationship between nature and humanity.
