장세일 작가는 기하학적 다면체 형태로 동물을 형상화하여 도시 속 인간과 공존하는 존재로 표현한다. 그의 대표작 ‘포춘 베어’는 도시 환경에 적응한 동물의 모습을 통해 현대 사회의 규격화된 삶을 은유하는데 금속과 자동차 페인트를 활용해 차가운 재료로 따뜻한 감성을 담아내는 조형미를 구현한다.
이번 전시에는 뚝섬 한강공원에 어울리도록 〈스탠다드 애니멀-플라밍고〉 시리즈 3점을 전시한다. 작가는 한강 수변 공간에 어울리는 플라밍고를 통해 다면체 동물과 서울이라는 대도시 속 인간의 공존을 작품으로 표현한다.
장세일(b.1981) 작가는 수원대학교 조소과 학사 및 대학원 석사를 졸업하였으며 페이토 갤러리(2024), 본갤러리(2021) 등에서 개인전을 비롯하여 홍콩 하버 아트페어 특별전(2019) 등에 참여하며 많은 전시 활동을 하고 있다.
Seil Jang creates animal figures out of geometric polyhedrons, presenting them as beings that coexist with humans in a city. Fortune Bear, one of his major works, reflects the standardized nature of modern life through the image of an animal that has fully adapted to urban life. Using cold materials such as steel and car paint, he creates a warm, emotional aesthetic.
This exhibition features three pieces from Jang’s STANDARD ANIMAL-Flamingo series. By placing flamingos, a species that belongs in proximity to water, near the Han River, the work represents the coexistence of wildlife and humans within the metropolis.
Seil Jang(b.1981) earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Sculpture from Suwon University. He has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Peyto Gallery (2024) and Bon Gallery (2021), and participated in group exhibitions at the Harbour Art Fair in Hong Kong (2019), among many others.
