민복기(b.1985)는 충북대학교 미술과에서 조소를 전공하였고 성신여자대학교 일반대학원에서 조소과 석사를 마친 후 박사에 재학 중이다. 핑크갤러리(2022), 청주시립미술관(2016), 숲속갤러리(2014), 갤러리 이즈(2014) 등에서 다수의 개인전을 개최하였고, 강구안 일원, 이천아트홀 아트갤러리, 이천서희테마파크 아트스페이스 미디어젠, 안동 문화예술의 전당 등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다.

민복기는 작품의 움직임을 통해 관객과의 상호작용과 이로 인한 교류가 주를 이루는 작업을 하고 있다. 석재를 사용한 움직이는 작품에서 나아가 현재는 다양한 재료를 사용하여 작업을 이뤄오고 있다. 전시장에서 작품은 만져지고 이로 인한 감촉과 움직임으로 이야기는 전달된다.

<바라보다>는 광화문광장에서 하늘을 응시하는 토끼를 주인공으로 설정한 조각 작품으로, 자연과 도시, 인간의 연결성을 시각적으로 표현한다. 세 개의 원형 구조는 하늘과 공간의 무한함을 상징하며, 각각의 원 내부에 배치된 요소들은 자연과 도시의 조화를 나타낸다. 작품 속 구름을 형상화한 스테인리스 스틸 망구조는 작가 고유의 패턴을 통해 구름의 이미지를 연상시키면서도, 망구조의 특성을 활용해 주변의 하늘을 그대로 투영한다. 이는 관람자에게 하늘과 구름을 물리적으로 경험하게 함으로써 자연과의 연결을 강조한다. 또한 베어링을 사용해 바람의 흐름에 따라 회전하는 키네틱적 요소를 도입함으로써, 작품은 정적인 조각을 넘어 자연의 살아 있는 움직임을 구현한다. 이러한 움직임은 시각적 유희를 불러일으키며, 관람자에게 작품을 더욱 다채로운 방식으로 감상할 기회를 제공한다.

Min Bok-ki (b.1985) graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Chungbuk National University, received his Master’s degree from Department of Sculpture at the graduate school of Sungshin Women’s University, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. He held his solo exhibitions at Pink Gallery (2022), Cheongju Museum of Art (2016), Forest Gallery (2014) Galleryis (2014) many times, and participated in many group exhibitions at the area of Gangguan, Art Gallery of Icheon Art Hall, Art Space Media Zen of Icheon Seohui Theme Park, and Andong Culture and Art Center.

The artworks of Min Bok-ki has been focusing on interaction with the audience through the movement of the work and the exchanges that arise from such interaction. Proceeding from moving works made of stone, the artist now uses a variety of materials. His works can be touched in the exhibition and the stories are told through the feeling and movement.

<Look> is a sculpture that features a rabbit gazing at the sky in Gwanghwamun Plaza, visually expressing the connectivity among nature, the city, and humans. The three circular structures symbolize the infiniteness of the sky and space, while the elements placed inside each circle represent the harmony between nature and the city. The mesh structure made of stainless steel that forms the clouds in the work brings up the image of clouds through the artist’s own pattern, and projects the surrounding sky, utilizing its own characteristics of the mesh structure. This emphasizes the connectivity to nature by allowing the audience to physically experience the sky and clouds. It also introduces a kinetic element by using bearings to rotate according to the flow of the wind, taking the work beyond a static sculpture to embody the living movement of nature. Such movement creates visual amusement and provides audience the opportunity to experience the work in more diverse ways.
