The Wind of Narrative is a kinetic sculpture inspired by wind. Guo visualizes the form and power of wind to express the interaction between humans and nature. Inside the sculpture, a mechanical apparatus automatically controls the trajectory and shape in response to changes in wind velocity and direction, allowing the sculpture to move freely. Through this, the audience can observe the changes in nature.
Hang Guo (b.1973) is a professor at China’s Northeast Normal University’s School of Fine Arts. Guo is a veteran Chinese artist who won the Excellence Award at the Changchun World Sculpture Exhibition and the Bronze Medal at the Chinese Contemporary Art Awards. Guo is the first foreign artist to become a finalist at the Seoul Sculpture Prize and has been actively working with Korea after having studied in Seoul. Guo earned her master’s degree in Ceramic Design from Hongik University and his doctorate in Fine Arts from Dankook University.
<서사의 바람>은 자연 요소인 바람에서 영감을 받은 키네틱 조각이다. 작가는 바람의 형태와 힘을 시각화하고, 이를 통해 자연과 인간의 상호작용을 나타낸다. 작품 내부에는 풍속과 방향에 반응해 궤적과 형상을 자동 조정하는 기계장치를 설치하여 동력을 통한 자유로운 조형의 움직임을 구현한다. 이를 통해 관객은 변화하는 자연의 모습을 살펴볼 수 있다.
곽항(b.1973) 작가는 해외작가로 중국의 동북사범대학교 미술대학 교수이며, 중국 장춘 국제 조각 작품 초청전에서 우수상을 수상하였고, 중국 당대 조각예술 작품전에서 동상을 수상한 중국의 중견작가이다. 이번 서울조각상에 입선한 첫 해외작가로 과거 서울에서의 유학생활을 통해 한국과 활발한 교류활동을 하고 있다. 홍익대학교 미술대학원 도예 디자인 석사를 졸업하고 단국대학교 예술조형대학원 박사를 졸업하였다.
