김병규(b.1978)는 성신여자대학교 대학원 조소과 박사를 졸업하고 현재 조소과 겸임교수로 재직 중이다. 싱가폴 YANG 갤러리(2024), 벨기에 리빈갤러러(2022), MASS 갤러리(2022), 대경뮤지엄(2021), 제이아트스페이스(2021), 임립미술관(2018) 등 국내외 다수의 개인전에 참여하였다. 서울국제조각페스타, K-Sculpture to the world 이탈리아 피렌체, 중국청도 국제심포지엄, 이천국제조각 등 다수의 단체전과 홍콩, 싱가폴, 벨기에, 네덜란드 등 해외 아트페어에 참여하였다. 또한, 제23회 대한민국미술대전 특선을 수상한 바 있다.

김병규는 도심 속 공간에서 만날 수 있는 인물의 이미지를 가감하여 형상화하는 작가이다.

<스케이트보드-공간을 즐기다>는 스케이트보드를 타는 인물을 나타낸 작품이다. 작품은 실루엣만을 강조한 표현과 내부의 유동적인 색채 패턴이 특징적이며, 역동적인 움직임을 보여준다. 작품의 인물이 스케이트보드와 구형 구조물 위에 위치한 점에서 균형과 도전의 의미를 담고 있다. 노들섬은 서울 한강 한가운데 위치한 문화예술 중심지로, 음악, 공연, 전시, 자연이 어우러지는 복합문화공간이다. 과거에는 한강대교 아래 작은 섬이었지만, 현재는 시민들을 위한 예술 공간으로 재탄생하였다. 작품에 투영된 ‘도전, 균형, 자유’라는 메시지는 노들섬의 문화적 정체성과 연결된다. 노들섬은 젊은 예술가들의 실험적인 무대이자, 자유로운 창작과 표현이 이루어지는 공간이므로, 스케이트보드를 타는 역동적인 인물은 그러한 창작 정신과 개방성을 시각적으로 표현하는 역할을 한다. 또한, 한강이라는 물리적 환경과 맞물려 ‘흐름과 변화’라는 개념을 강조한다. 작가는 <스케이트보드-공간을 즐기다>가 한강의 물결처럼 역동적이며, 노들섬을 찾는 다양한 사람들의 움직임을 반영하는 상징적인 작품이 되길 바란다.

Kim Byung-kyu (b.1978) earned his Ph.D from the Department of Sculpture at Sungshin Women’s University, and is currently serving as an adjunct professor in the Department of Sculpture. He held his solo exhibitions at YANG Gallery in Singapore (2024), Livein Gallery in Belgium (2022), MASS Gallery (2022), Daekyoung Museum (2021), J Art Space (2021), and Limlip art Museum (2018). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including International Sculpture Festa in Seoul, K-Sculpture to the world in Firenze, Italy, International Symposium in Qingdao, China, and International Sculpture Symposium Icheon, along with the international art fairs held in Hong Kong, Singapore, Belgium, and Netherlands. In addition, he was awarded the Special Selection by the 23rd Grand Art Exhibition of Korea.

Kim Byung-kyu is an artist who adjusts and creates images of people who can be found in urban spaces.

<Skateboard – Enjoy the Space> is a piece of work depicting a figure riding a skateboard. This work is characterized by an emphasized expression on silhouettes and fluid color patterns inside, representing dynamic movement. That the figure illustrated in the work is positioned on a skateboard and a spherical structure implies a sense of balance and challenge. Nodeul Island is a cultural art center in the middle of the Hangang River in Seoul, where music, performances, exhibitions, and nature are in harmony. In the past, it used to be a small island under the Hangangdaegyo Bridge, but now it has been transformed into an art space for citizens. The message of ‘challenge, balance, and freedom’ projected in the work, in this regard, connects to the cultural identity of Nodeul Island. As Nodeul Island is an experimental stage for young artists and a space for free creation and expression, a dynamic figure riding a skateboard serves as a visual representation of such creative spirit and openness. It also emphasizes the concept of ‘flow and change’ along with the physical environment of the Hangang River. The artist hopes that <Skateboard – Enjoy the Space> will be as dynamic as the waves of the Hangang River, and become a symbolic piece of work, reflecting the movement of various people visiting Nodeul Island.
