유수(b.1990)는 성신여자대학교 조소과를 전공하고 동 대학원 석사 졸업 후 박사를 수료하였다. 디아트플랜트 요갤러리(2023), 갤러리 도스(2022), 갤러리 이즈(2018, 2016), 스페이스 도(2017) 등에서 개인전을 개최했고, 김포 국제조각공원, 아트뮤지엄 려, 비디 갤러리, 정문규미술관, 모산조형미술관 등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 광화문 국제아트페스티벌에서 한국미술협회 이사장상(2023)과 한국구상조각대전에서 우수상(2016)을 수상한 바 있다.

유수는 과거 풍선공장 근처에서 살았던 기억을 바탕으로, 검정 풍선을 주요 오브제로 활용하여 이상과 현실, 경계의 긍정적 가치를 탐구한다. 조각적 표현 방식과 함께 빛, 거울을 활용한 다양한 작업을 통해 경계의 의미를 재구성하고, 새로운 가능성을 모색하는 작업을 이어가고 있다.

<seesaw-TOPIA>는 이상과 현실 공간의 접점, 즉 다양한 지식의 시공간 경계를 검정 풍선과 황금 목마를 통해 표현하였다. 이 두 오브제는 공간과 공간을 이어주고 미래와 과거의 시간, 이상과 현실의 경계를 상징한다. 도서관은 지식과 정보가 집합되는 공간이자, 과거와 현재, 미래의 시공간을 초월하는 지식의 축소판이다. 현실 속에 존재하면서 현실과 분리된 특별한 공간으로, 다층적인 의미와 가능성을 포함하고 있다. 이 작품은 도서관 앞에 위치하여, 여러 시간과 공간을 넘나드는 지식의 상징성을 강조한다. 풍선과 목마는 무한한 가능성의 출발점이자 긍정적인 변화의 기회를 상징한다. 조각적 표현과 빛, 거울을 사용한 표현방식은 실재적이면서도 비일상적인 공간을 구성하며, 도서관이라는 헤테로토피아적 공간을 통해 현실과 다른 세계를 연결하고, 다차원적인 경계의 의미를 탐구하게 한다.

Yoosoo (b.1990) graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the College of Fine Arts of Sungshin Women’s University, obtained her Master’s degree and completed her Doctoral degree from the graduate school of same university. She held her solo exhibitions at the Art Plant Jo Gallery (2023), Gallery Dos (2022), Galleryis (2018, 2016), and Space Do (2017), and participated in many group exhibitions at the Gimpo International Sculpture Park, Art Museum Ryeo, Vidi Gallery, Chungmunkyu Museum, and Mosan Art Museum. She was awarded the Korean Fine Art Association President Award (2023) at the Gwanghwamun International Art Festival and the Excellence Award at the Korea Figurative Sculpture Contest (2016).

Based on her memories of living nearby a balloon factory, Yoosoo uses black balloons as her main object, exploring the positive values of ideal, reality, and boundaries. Through various works utilizing light and mirrors, along with sculptural expression methods, the artist continues her work on reconstructing the meaning of boundaries and seeking for new possibilities.

<seesaw-TOPIA> represents the interface of ideal and real space, that is, the space-time boundary of various knowledge, through a black balloon and a golden wooden horse. These two objects connect space to space and symbolize the boundaries between the time of future and past, ideal and reality. Library is a space where knowledge and information are gathered, and it is a microcosm of knowledge beyond time and space in the past, present, and future. It is a special space that exists in but is separated from reality, and contains multiple layers of meaning and possibility. This piece of work is located in front of the library, emphasizing the symbolism of knowledge that transcends time and space. Balloon and wooden horse represent the beginning of infinite possibilities and opportunities for positive change. The sculptural expressions and the use of light and mirrors create a real but extraordinary space, connecting the reality and other worlds through library, the heterotopic space, and enables exploration of the meaning of multidimensional boundaries.
