이영섭 작가는 한국적인 미를 조각으로 구현해온 예술가이다. 그는 전통적인 조각 방식에서 벗어나 ‘발굴 기법’이라는 독창적인 조형 방식을 고안해 이를 작품에 적용했으며 시간성과 흔적을 담은 조각을 통해 과거와 현재를 잇는 작업을 이어가고 있다.
이번 전시에는 <여우와 어린왕자>, <천사(샘)>, <의자> 작품이 전시되는데, 그의 작품은 유물처럼 보이지만 현대적인 감각을 지니며, 자연과 인간, 기억과 시간을 아우르는 깊은 사유를 담고 있다. 그는 자신을 ‘잘 만드는 조각가’가 아닌 ‘시간을 이야기하는 작가’로 정의하는데, 그의 조각은 단순한 형상이 아니라, 삶의 흔적과 철학이 깃든 이야기의 공간이다.
이영섭(b.1963) 작가는 강원대학교 사범대학을 졸업했으며, 2448 문파인아츠(2023), 전등사 특별 초대 전시회(2022) 등 전시에 참여하여 왕성한 활동을 하고 있으며 현재 양평과 제주를 오가며 작업에 몰두하고 있다.
Yeoungsup Lee gives shape to the aesthetics of Korean beauty through sculpture. Breaking away from traditional techniques, he developed an original method called “excavation technique.” He creates works that embody temporality and traces of past, and bridge the past and the present.
The exhibition features The Fox and the Little Prince, Angel (Spring), and The Chair. While Lee’s works may resemble ancient relics, they are imbued with a contemporary sensibility and offer profound reflections on nature, humanity, memory, and time. Lee does not define himself as a talented sculptor, but as an “artist who tells stories about time.” His works are spaces that hold traces of life and philosophical stories.
Yeoungsup Lee(b.1963) graduated from the College of Education at Kangwon National University. He has participated in exhibitions such as 2448 Moon Fine Arts (2023) and a special exhibition at Jeondeungsa Temple (2022). He currently works between Yangpyeong and Jeju.
