Born in 1980, Lee Myeong Hoon studied sculpture at Jeonju University and completed graduate studies in Public Art at the Graduate School of Convergent Design and Arts, Sungshin Women’s University. He has held solo exhibitions at MediaZen Headquarters (2023), Dodon Art House (2021), Gallery O (2017), Gallery Puesto (2015), Hwabong Gallery (2014), and Gallery IS (2014). His work has also been presented in more than one hundred group exhibitions.
Lee Myung Hoon is a sculptor, who transforms the motif of a self-portrait character. into a symbolic figure, /that embodies the ironies of modern life – where comedy and tragedy coexist in, human experience.
With Memories X 1440 rpm. the artist introduces “Cassette-bot” / a robot-like figure that, bridges memory. and the future giving artistic form- to the identity of Dongdaemun-gu. The head, shaped like a cassette tape, preserves the sentiment and / nostalgia of the analog era. while its chest carries soft pastel tones, that reflect stories of optimism. Even in the hurried rhythms of the city. the artist reminds us- that moments of romance- still linger at our side. His signature pastel patterns embody diversity and harmony, and the robot’s playful expression- radiates warmth.
Here, “romance” is imagined as a meeting point / between technology and art. between daily life and imagination. Set within the lively atmosphere of the plaza, the work invites passersby. to pause, to smile, and to carry with them, a brief resonance of tenderness and joy. In this way, the sculpture acts as a poetic rest—a comma. in the ongoing sentences of urban life.
