장수빈(b.1984)은 성신여자대학교 조소과 및 동대학원 조소과를 졸업하였다. 갤러리 앨리(2024) 외 5회의 개인전을 개최하였고, 답십리 아트랩, 북서울꿈의숲, 일산 호수공원, 코엑스 등에서 다수의 단체전 및 부스전에 참여하였다.

장수빈의 작업은 텃밭에서 직접 재배한 작물들에서 영감을 받아 제작한다. 단순화시킨 작물 형상 위에 자연이 가진 본연의 색채를 물감 터치로 접합하여 작품을 완성해낸다. 그리고 작가는 인간 또한 자연의 일부이고 자연을 닮았다는 신념으로 작품을 감상하는 관람자가 단지 색채를 감상하는 데 그치지 않고 모두가 “자신만의 색깔”을 떠올려 보며 본연의 색을 찾을 수 있기를 기대하며 작품을 제작한다.

<컬러 발란스>는 가지, 오이, 바나나를 비롯한 다양한 과채 형상을 단순화시킨 덩어리의 표면에 물감 터치 모양을 접합하여 그 터치 안에 자연물 본연의 컬러를 옮겨서 담아냈다. 그리고 각각의 덩어리를 균형감 있게 쌓아 올리고 접합해서 하나의 상징적인 작품으로 표현했다. 다양한 컬러가 나름의 균형으로 조화롭게 쌓여서 하나의 작품으로 완성된 그녀의 작품은 전국 각지의 농수산물이 집결되어 다시 전국으로 보내져 시장의 균형을 맞추는 역할을 하는 가락시장의 모습을 닮았다. 그렇기 때문에 작가는 “가락몰”이라는 장소적인 특징으로 인해 관람객들이 작품을 더 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 역할을 할 수 있으리라 기대한다.

Born in 1984, Jang Su Bin studied sculpture at Sungshin Women’s University, completing both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She has held six solo exhibitions, including at Gallery Alley (2024), and has participated in numerous group shows and art fairs at venues such as Dapsimni Art Lab, Buk Seoul Dream Forest, Ilsan Lake Park, and COEX.

Jang Su Bin’s practice is rooted in the inspiration she draws from crops grown in her own garden. Simplified forms of vegetables become the foundation of her sculptures, their surfaces enlivened with painterly touches that echo the inherent colors of nature. For the artist, humans too are inseparable from nature, reflections of its essence. She hopes that viewers, while engaging with her works, will not only appreciate their colors but also be reminded of their own “true hues”—a rediscovery of one’s natural self.

Color Balance presents clusters of eggplants, cucumbers, bananas, and other produce, reduced to elemental forms and layered with painterly gestures that embed each with its original color. These volumes are carefully stacked and joined into a symbolic structure, a harmony of diverse colors arranged in balance. The work recalls the spirit of Garak Market, where agricultural and marine products from across the nation converge, are redistributed, and sustain equilibrium in the flow of trade. In this way, the sculpture resonates with its site, allowing visitors to connect its imagery with the rhythms of daily life at “Garak Mall.”
