권창남(b.1963)은 서울대학교 미술대학 조소과를 졸업하고 상명대학교 예술대학원에서 조각을 전공하였다. 개인전 15회, 아트페어 초대전 7회, 단체전 300여 회 등 다수의 전시에 참여하였으며, 2024년 월드 아트엑스포 IAA 공모에서 최우수 작가상을 받았고, 2021년도에는 서울 국제조각페스타 대상을 수상한 바 있다.

권창남은 30여 년간 주재료로 돌을 사용해 왔으며, 유년 시절 부모님에 대한 기억을 소재로 삼아 자신만의 한국적 정체성을 내포한 작업을 선보인다.

그는 기억을 조각하는 작가로서 유년의 시공간에 남겨진 아버지의 기억을 좇아 운치(韻致)가 깃들인 풍경을 조각하고, 어머니의 기억을 좇아 자애(慈愛)를 품고 있는 반닫이를 조탁한다. 작가는 마음속 깊이 간직한 부성과 모성의 자취를 조각하고 다듬는 과정에서, 돌의 파편이 떨어질 때마다 현대 사회에서 긴장되고 무장된 채 살아가는 현대적 삶의 맹목과 허무의 독소가 해소되고, 긴장되었던 그의 마음이 치유되고 해방됨을 느낀다. 그의 조각은 쓸쓸한 망각의 시대에 잃어버린 시간을 되찾아 함께 되새기는 위안과 사랑의 예술을 지향한다.

Kwon Chang-nam (b.1963) graduated from Seoul National University College of Art with a degree in sculpture and majored in sculpture at Sangmyung University Graduate School of Art. He participated in a number of exhibitions, including 15 individual exhibitions, 7 art fairs invitational exhibitions, and 300 group exhibitions, and received the Best Writer Award at the 2024 World Art Expo IAA Competition, and won the Seoul International Sculpture Festa in 2021.

Kwon Chang-nam has been using stones as the main material for more than 30 years, and uses memories of his parents as the subject to present work that implies his own Korean identity.

As a artist who carves memories, he carves a landscape with a charm (韻致) after the memory of his father left in his childhood space and time, and follows his mother’s memory to organize a half-clad with affection (慈愛). In the process of sculpting and refining the traces of fatherhood and motherhood, the artist feels that whenever fragments of stones fall, the toxins of blindness and nihil of modern life, living in a tense and armed state of modern society, are relieved, and his nervous mind is healed and liberated. His sculpture aims at an art of comfort and love that recovers lost time in an era of lonesome oblivion and reflects on it together.
