Myeongbeom Kim explores the chasm between familiar phenomena and their meanings, and realizes them through various media such as poetic sculptures and installations. He observes ordinary objects—from pencils and balloons, to flora and fauna, to inanimate objects such as rocks—to examine their essential properties. Some of his works are straightforward and witty, and some employ poetic metaphors and juxtapositions, encouraging viewers to expand their interpretation of the artwork and create new meanings.

In cities, streetlights are as ubiquitous as trees. The lights that line the streets seem to be as interconnected as the countless people living in the city, but their presence is largely unnoticed until they turn on after sunset. In Mirage, the artist exposes the network of wires connecting the streetlights, which resembles an uprooted street tree, to reveal what is under the surface. The common objects of everyday life become metaphors that reflect human life.
