The audio is produced with the AI voice of MBC announcer Dae-ho Kim. Soyoung Chung analyzes the geology of the space and time surrounding her and raises questions about the relationship between human and nature through various media such as site-specific installation, sculpture, and video. She captures the chasm between humans and nature, two opposing forces that must live in symbiosis, as well as the overlap between the two heterogeneous beings. Growing up in different cultures, Chung has a wide-ranging interest in geology, geopolitics, and oceanography, and connects these complex layers to the invisible process of material formation to create her own cultural and social meanings.

‘Phantom pain’ refers to when an individual feels as if a missing body part still exists. It is impossible to tell whether the two stones, each missing a face, were originally one or came from different time periods. The appearance of the two stones, whose past are unknown, changes depending on the viewer’s position and the shifting light. As the inherent time of the ever-changing object meets the time of the viewer, it evolves, repeating the process of addition and subtraction.
