In this exhibition, Kim presents a new work, Red Bricks, which features enlarged photographs of the red bricks of the Suwon House in Pungnap-dong, reconstructed on a large scale. This is reminiscent of Kim’s earlier series and photo book Angles, in which he photographed the corners and bends of buildings in Switzerland for three years. While the corners of buildings in the photographs were made into the folding pages of the N-shaped photobook, this exhibition experiments with Kim’s flattened images in an actual three-dimensional site.
Kim Kyoungtae’s photographs transcend mere observation; they provoke one’s imagination of visual perception through the profound exploration of an object’s essence. Within this exhibition, by printing photographs at an unfamiliar scale and installing them to envelop walls of the Suwon House, Kim provides viewers with an experience that heightens visual disruption and conflict, steering them away from conventional visual and perceptual experiences.
이번 전시에서는 풍납동 수원 주택의 붉은 벽돌을 확대 촬영하여 큰 스케일로 재구성한 신작 <빨간 벽돌>을 선보인다. 김경태의 초기 작업 중 스위스에서 3년 동안 건물의 모서리와 꺾이는 부분들을 촬영해 엮은 사진집 『앵글스(Angles)』를 떠올리게 한다. 사진 속 건물의 경계 부분이 ‘N’자 형태의 사진집의 접히는 면으로 제작되었다면, 이번 전시에서는 평면화된 이미지를 실제 입체 공간에서 실험한다.
김경태의 사진은 단순한 관찰을 넘어 사물의 본질에 대한 깊은 탐구와 시지각의 상상력을 자극한다. 이번 전시에서는 생경한 크기로 사진을 출력하여 수원 주택의 벽면을 감싸는 형태로 설치함으로써 관람객에게 관습적인 시지각적 경험에서 벗어나 시각적 교란과 충돌을 증폭시키는 경험을 제공한다.
