Aqua Tree is an analog kinetic sculpture themed around the water cycle. The upper tier represents clouds made of vapor, the center symbolizes a tree, and the tank at the bottom represents mountains, fields, and human habitats. The sculpture operates without an external power source and instead relies on falling water. The work enacts the process of rain falling from the clouds, seeping into the earth, and then circulating back into the air. The visual performance and sounds created by the flow of water offer sensory enjoyment to the audience, along with a therapeutic experience that invites viewers to reflect on the circulation of nature.
Byungchul Cho (b.1974) earned his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Environmental Sculpture at the University of Seoul and completed his master’s coursework at the same institution. He held solo exhibitions at venues such as Posco The Sharp Gallery (2024), MonaValley (2023), and Estia Gallery (2022), and has participated in multiple group exhibitions hosted at venues such as Osan Museum of Art, Isabu Dokdo Memorial Center, and Yangpyeong Museum of Art.
<수(水) 나무>는 물의 순환을 주제로 한 아날로그 키네틱 조각이다. 상단에는 수증기로 형성된 구름을, 중앙은 나무를, 하단의 수조는 산과 들, 인간의 삶의 터전을 상징한다. 구름에서 비가 내려 땅으로 스며들고 물은 다시 순환되어 하늘로 돌아가는 과정을 무동력 방식으로 구현하며 연쇄적인 물의 낙차를 통해 작품이 작동된다. 물이 흐르며 만들어내는 시각적 퍼포먼스와 사운드는 관람자에게 감각적 즐거움과 함께 자연의 순환에 대해 생각해보게 하며 치유적 경험을 제공한다.
조병철(b.1974) 작가는 서울시립대학교 환경조각학과를 졸업하고 동 대학원에서 석사를 수료하였다. 포스코더샵갤러리(2024), 모나무르 복합예술공간(2023), 에스티아갤러리(2022) 등에서 개인전을 열었고, 오산시립미술관, 삼척이사부독도기념관, 양평군립미술관 등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다.
