Dance of Freedom is a large-scale installation that proposes an artistic experience in which nature, humans, and space exist in harmony. Atop a stainless steel structure, butterflies of various colors and shapes appear to dance in synchronization. The work resembles a bird cage, but with its top open, it captures the tension between captivity and freedom. The butterflies that fly above the structure represent the human will to overcome limits and move forward.
Yejin Shin (b.1985) graduated from the Department of Fine Art at Changwon National University and earned her master’s degree in Sculpture from Sungshin Women’s University, where she is currently working towards her doctorate. She has held solo exhibitions at venues such as BONGSAN Cultural Center (2024), the Park Soo Keun Museum (2023), the Clayarch Gimhae Museum (2022), and Yunseul Museum of Art (2021), and has participated in multiple group exhibitions at venues such as Dapsimni Art Lab, Gyeonggi Arts Center, Kimhongdo Art Museum, and the Sejong Center.
<자유의 군무>는 자연과 인간, 공간이 조화를 이루는 예술적 경험을 제안하는 대형 설치 조각이다. 스테인리스 봉으로 구성된 구조물 위에 다채로운 색과 형태의 나비들이 어우러져 마치 군무를 추는 듯한 장면을 연출한다. 작품은 새장을 연상시키면서도 상단이 열린 구조를 통해 ‘갇힘과 해방’이라는 상반된 의미를 담고 있다. 꼭대기에 자유롭게 날아오르는 나비들은 인간이 제약을 극복하고 나아가려는 의지를 표현한다.
신예진(b.1985) 작가는 국립창원대학교 미술학과를 졸업하고 성신여자대학교 일반대학원 조소과 석사 졸업 및 동 대학원 박사 과정에 재학 중이다. 봉산문화회관(2024), 박수근미술관(2023), 클레이아크김해미술관(2022), 김해문화의전당 윤슬미술관(2021) 등에서 개인전을 개최하였고, 답십리 아트랩, 경기아트센터, 김홍도 미술관, 세종문화회관 등 다수의 기관에서 단체전에 참여하였다.
