Who Are You?, a piece from Do’s Signal series, presents an unlikely encounter between a polar bear, which lives in the Arctic, and a butterfly, a symbol of spring. The juxtaposition serves as a reminder of the accelerating impacts of climate change, highlighting how climate change is not just a problem limited to the Arctic, but a reality that we all face. The image of the polar bear looking up at the sky suggests hope and the possibility of overcoming the crisis.
Geungi Do (b. 1994) studied Sculpture in the Department of Fine Arts at Pusan National University and earned his master’s in Fine Arts at Chungnam National University. He has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Forerium (2023), Woori Gallery (2022, 2023), and participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs at venues and events including Lotte Hotel Seoul, the International Sculpture Festa in Seoul, Hyundai Department Store Ulsan, Corner Gallery, Haeundae Gallery, and the Busan Sea Art Festival.
작가의 ‘시그널’ 시리즈 작업 중 하나인 <너는 누구니?>는 극지방에 서식하고 있는 북극곰과 따뜻한 봄을 상징하는 나비와의 이질적 만남을 통해 점점 가속화되는 기후변화 문제를 상기시킨다. 이는 극지방만의 문제가 아닌 우리 모두가 당면한 현실임을 드러낸다. 작품 속에서 북극곰이 하늘을 올려다보는 모습은 절망보다는 희망과 극복의 가능성을 암시한다.
도근기(b.1994) 작가는 부산대학교 미술학과에서 조소를 전공하고 충남대학교 대학원 미술학과 석사를 졸업했다. 복합문화공간 포레리움(2023), 우리 갤러리(2022, 2023) 등에서 개인전을 열었고 롯데호텔 서울, 서울국제조각페스타, 현대백화점 울산점, 코너갤러리, 해운대갤러리, 부산바다미술제 등 다수의 단체전과 아트페어에 참여했다.
